Professional Staff
Shari Dunn, Managing Principal of CompAnalysis, leads a staff of talented consultants, researchers, and administrative professionals, who are well-versed in the areas of consulting and human resources. CompAnalysis is qualified to address compensation strategies and implementation, performance management, salary management, labor market research, organizational design, benefits analysis, and other general human resources services.
Shari K. Dunn
Managing Principal
Prior to establishing CompAnalysis, Ms. Dunn held management and professional positions with a number of companies, including McKinsey & Co., Deloitte & Touche, Castle & Cooke, Fibreboard Corporation, Bank of America and Boise Cascade Corporation. While employed by these organizations, she functioned as both consultant and manager in the areas of salary administration, executive compensation, and sales/incentive compensation.
She established CompAnalysis in 1980 and today the firm has a staff of seven. CompAnalysis has worked with more than 750 different employer organizations to improve their compensation management practices. Clients have been in a broad variety of industries, including technology, healthcare, manufacturing, agribusiness, financial services, professional firms, nonprofits and government agencies. Typical client sizes range from 30 to over 1,000 employees.
In addition to her management and consulting activities, she is a well-known speaker and regularly leads seminars and workshops on employee compensation and related matters for a variety of audiences. She also serves as an expert witness in connection with wage and hour litigation and other compensation matters.
Ms. Dunn has a BA degree in Psychology from the University of California at Berkeley. She is the former President of the 5,000 + member Northern California Human Resources Association (NCHRA), the nations' largest chapter of the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM). In addition, she maintains active memberships in the Bay Area Compensation Association, World at Work (formerly the American Compensation Association), and the Women Presidents' Organization. She is a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the Oakland Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and the California Alumni Association Personnel Advisory Committee. Previously, she was active on the Board of Directors of Easter Seals of the Bay Area and a Director of the Haas Alumni Network of the School of Business at U.C. Berkeley, where she serves as a guest lecturer.

Margaret Bentson, CCP
Principal
Prior to joining CompAnalysis, Ms. Bentson was a Principal with Hewitt Associates, most recently based in the firm's San Francisco office, where she consulted with clients and managed a staff of compensation consultants. Prior to her tenure in San Francisco, she was based in southern California. She has over 25 years of compensation consulting experience and a wide range of expertise working with large, mid-sized and start-up organizations in manufacturing, retail, high technology, energy, biotechnology, consumer products, financial services, telecommunications, higher education and healthcare.
Ms. Bentson's areas of expertise include: compensation management, total compensation assessment, development of compensation policies and procedures, job classification and evaluation, short- and long-term incentive design, development of recognition award programs, performance management and federal Fair Labor Standards Act and state exemption status assessment.
She has written several articles and book chapters for WorldatWork and the Society for Human Resource Management on compensation topics and has delivered speeches to professional associations such as WorldatWork and the Bay Area Compensation Association. Prior to becoming a compensation consultant, she worked in labor relations.
Ms. Bentson has a B.A. degree from the University of California at Davis and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She has a Masters in Industrial and Labor Relations (Human Resource Management) from Cornell University. She has her Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation from WorldatWork.

Lisa Norris
Senior Consultant
As a Senior Consultant at CompAnalysis, Ms. Norris manages both compensation and general HR projects for clients both large and small. She has practical experience working with both employees and management on a broad range of employee relations and policy issues and has also planned, developed and structured human resources departments and systems.
Ms. Norris has held several senior human resources positions including serving as VP for Finance at a large non-profit organization. In her twenty years of human resource experience, Ms. Norris has implemented and managed almost every component of this organizational function. Her experience in financial management and strategic planning compliment the consulting she provides, especially with companies experiencing growth and/or mergers.
Since joining CompAnalysis in 2007, Ms. Norris has provided consultation services on many compensation projects. These include developing base pay plans, linking performance to pay, and recommending incentive programs. She has also provided general human resource services that include HR audits, benefits reviews, development of job descriptions, and assistance in creating HR systems.
A graduate of UC Santa Cruz in French Literature, Ms. Norris has an MBA from Golden Gate University, is a member of the local chapter of the Northern California Human Resources Association and the Bay Area Compensation Association, and she has participated in many seminars and trainings related to human resources.

Rita Haronian
Consultant
Ms. Haronian has been involved in human resources issues since 1983, when she worked with the cofounder of The Management Center in San Francisco, to analyze one of the first Wage and Benefits Surveys for the local nonprofit community.
Ms. Haronian is the lead consultant on the development of CompAnalysis’ annual Greater San Francisco Bay Area Compensation Survey, the only local survey that reports by micro-market within the Bay Area.
Prior to joining CompAnalysis, Ms. Haronian helped create a number of database applications to produce the annual Northern California survey; she also designed customized applications that were licensed to organizations across the country. She brings 20 years of database application experience to CompAnalysis.
Ms. Haronian served as Project Manager for The Management Center’s Wage and Benefit Survey of Northern California Nonprofit Organizations from 2001 to 2003. Her other consulting work focuses on customized compensation and benefit surveys, as well as employee handbooks for nonprofit organizations.
Ms. Haronian is a graduate of Oberlin College with degrees in Music and Mathematics, and was elected to the Oberlin chapter of Phi Beta Kappa.
Robert Barter
Associate Consultant
Mr. Barter's responsibilities at CompAnalysis include designing incentive and base pay plans, project research and analysis, report writing, application and use of labor market research statistical data, and interaction with clients concerning job comparisons, plan implementation and related matters.
Mr. Barter has a B.A. in Political Science from the University of California at Berkeley. Prior to joining the CompAnalysis team, Mr. Barter worked in quality control and manufacturing for Simpson Strong-Tie, an international construction business headquartered in Pleasanton, CA.

Cory Nelson
Senior Research Associate
Ms. Nelson's responsibilities at CompAnalysis include project research and analysis, report writing, application and use of labor market research statistical data, and interaction with clients concerning internal job comparisons and related matters.
Prior to joining CompAnalysis, she was a marketing coordinator and affiliate manager at Better World Books, a company that creates social, economic and environmental value by collecting and selling books online to fund literacy initiatives worldwide.
Ms. Nelson graduated from Gonzaga University in Spokane with great distinction, earning a BA in Business Administration concentrating on marketing and human resources. While there she also excelled in Intercollegiate Women's Varsity Rowing, earning consecutive team championships on the All Academic Team. In her spare time, Ms. Nelson mentored middle school student athletes.
Sarah Johnson
Associate
Ms. Johnson's responsibilities at CompAnalysis include the application and use of labor market data, project research, analysis and report writing. In addition, she works with clients regarding job comparisons, employee communications and related matters.
She also serves as editor of the firm's content marketing program and helps manage the firm's bi-weekly educational workshops on labor market data. In this role she contributes to white papers, Web site content, e-mail marketing, company collateral development, advertising and the firm's newsletter, CompOutlook.
Ms. Johnson is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley with a B.A. degree in both English and Philosophy. She formerly worked at Bailey, Klepinger Advertising, a full-service advertising and marketing agency, and her roles included heading up the HR department. From there she joined e-agency, one of the largest Web 2.0 firms in the Bay Area, where she served as account manager on a variety of client projects.
